About the Course:
- Provides the knowledge and skills to start integrating focused ultrasound and echo in to daily clinical practice — a foundation in the ultrasound skills needed for Intensive Care
- Suitable for Consultants, SASGs and advanced trainees in Intensive Care and Acute Medicine
- Interactive, focused lectures, with extensive use of clinical cases and video clips
- Practical sessions with supervised ‘hands-on’ scanning practice on models, patients (condition allowing) and phantoms
- Become familiar with the physics of ultrasound, learn how to set up the machines and obtain diagnostic quality images
- Understand training and accreditation requirements including logbook
- Lectures and practical sessions including:
- Obtaining Optimal Images: Machine Set Up, Knobology and Techniques
- Introduction to FAST and Renal Tract
- Chest Ultrasound
- Ultrasound to Guide Procedures
- Focused Echo Pathology Recognition
- TOE in ITU
- Ultrasound in Shock
- Opportunities to practise on a variety of widely used US scanning machines
- Meets one of the initial requirements towards CUSIC accreditation
- Meets one of the initial requirements towards FICE accreditation
