About the course

This must attend Infomed online course has been organised in response to calls and suggestions from many child and adolescent psychiatrists and paediatricians who have attended the paediatric mental health and child and adolescent psychiatry updates in the last few years, and are now in need of an update targeting the multifaceted needs of their professions. When we first run this course last April, this was highly evaluated and had excellent feedback from delegates. This three-day comprehensive online course, under the direction of Dr Valeria Parlatini, comprises a faculty of top experts, who are recognised nationally and internationally

The course will run over three days:

  • The first day will address the link between physical and mental health and the management of mental health problems in the context of complex medical conditions or disabilities.
  • The second day will focus on the post Covid implications for child and adolescent mental health, and changes in clinical practice.
  • The third day will be dedicated to advances in our understanding and management of ADHD, one of the most common neurodevelopmental disorders.

The aim

  • To give a practical - what you need to know - focus on the management of challenging medical conditions relevant to psychiatric practice, from dealing with the severely disabled child to preventing refeeding syndrome in the context of eating disorders.
  • To provide delegates with a comprehensive understanding of how the Covid pandemic has changed the scenario of child and adolescent mental health and how this can help us shape the clinical practice in the future, from the use of digital technologies to creating more inclusive services.
  • To provide an up-to-date overview on the management of ADHD, discussing dilemmas and challenges, from assessing ADHD in the context of complex comorbidities or childhood abuse to managing side effects of medication and planning an effective transition.

By the end of the course, you will have:

  • A better understanding of the link between physical and mental health conditions and more confidence in the management of mental disorders in children with complex medical problems.
  • A clear insight into post-pandemic changes in clinical practice and a sense of direction on how clinical services are evolving.
  • A deeper awareness on how ADHD may present in the context of complex comorbidities or challenging social context, and more confidence in its management.
